Cleaning Out My Closet

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

The closet in my new apartment is massive, but idiotically set up. Trevor and I are working on fixing it - it will likely be our largest DIY project to date. I have spent the last 48 hours glued to pinterest looking for inspiration . . . tips I've picked up:

1) paint matters. a lot.
2) utilize back of door space, or
3) remove doors entirely, if they take up too much space.
4) matching hangers are worth it.
5) editing out is also worth it.

Double Peter Pan

Sunday, January 26, 2014

Coat: Anthropologie
Necklace: Anthropologie
Shirt: Anthropologie
Pants: AG Denim Legging
Shoes: Payless (SO CUTE SO CHEAP)
Purse: gift, Kate Spade (thanks Mai)
Nailpolish: Essie "Clambake"

Wore this to The Trappist last weekend.

Baha, my torso is floating.

These are the cutest, cheapest, most all day wearable pumps I've ever owned.

It's been a long time since I've done the Peter Pan collar! (And I've never been one to shy away from a double.) Now that they're a little less prevalent I feel good bringing them back out. For a second there it was like Peter Pan collars had exploded all over every mall on earth.

All I can think about lately is putting my apartment together.
The next bear I'm trying to tackle: the closet.

My Boyfriend The Bartender - 4

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

The Ruby Tuesday

In a shaker (or a mason jar, if you're trendy), shake:
1 lime
1/2 a grapefruit
2 shots blanco tequila
1/2 oz. agave nectar

Pour into glass with a sugared salt rim,
top with tonic water to desired taste,
add a grapefruit wedge to garnish.

The perfect pick me up, especially since we're smack dab in the middle of citrus season.
I am basically surviving on cara cara navel oranges.

Office Style, The SWIILPT Way

Monday, January 20, 2014

Shirt: Old Navy
Skirt: Anthropologie
Shoes: Payless (SO CHEAP, SO GOOD)
Purse: gift, Kate Spade (thanks Mai)
Nailpolish: Wet n Wild "Everybody Loves Redmond"
Lipstick: Albeit "Vermillion", Anthropologie

The best thing about working in an office?
Totally impractical footwear.

At first I struggled with how to wear this skirt - the color, the pattern, and the shape seemed like overload with any topper I came up with. Then I figured I should stop fighting the craziness, and just embrace it. Sometimes a little clash goes a long way.

To temper the clash, I added plain nude pumps, a bold red lip, and a classic purse. The outfit as a whole follows my simple how-to-get-dressed formula: 1 part classic, 1 part sassy, repeat until frothy.

All photos taken by my boyfriend the bartender,
who is turning into quite the photographer.

Big Hair Don't Care

Saturday, January 18, 2014

Sweater: vintage
Pants: Gap
Glasses: gift, Forever 21 (thanks Danielle)
Booties: Target
Lipstick: Albeit, "Vermillion", Anthropologie
Tote: Target

Wore this to work earlier in the week.

You know those pieces you love so much that you can never give them up, even when the material is threadbare and small holes start to appear? That's how I feel about this sweater. I found it thrifting in Chicago ages ago.  This past winter I suddenly saw tons of embellished shoulder sweaters popping up at places like Forever21, but no shiny new gem could tear me away from this oldie.

Molly Moon's Honey Lavender Ice Cream

Saturday, January 11, 2014

I went to Molly Moon's several years ago with my Seattle-loving sister Danielle. I had the honey lavender ice cream and I don't think I'd ever eaten anything so delightful. I think honey & lavender may be my favorite flavor combination of all time.

{Speaking of which, if you're lucky enough to live in Chicago and haven't tried the spring seasonal Lavender Honey caramels from Amy's Candy Bar, GET THERE. NOW.}

Trevor and I followed the recipe for this gem from Molly Moon's recipe book, and since we don't have a fancy ice cream maker we used hilarious substitute materials: mason jars and empty paint buckets.

The ingredients are simple - just heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, honey, lavender flowers, and a pinch of salt. The sum of the parts will seriously blow your mind.

It sprinkled rain in Oakland today . . . it honestly shocked me.
I could get used to California winter.
