A little throwback...

About a year and a half ago, The Blush asked me for my style motto. I thought for a little while, and realized that it was as simple as this.

Happy Thursday!

What is there to do after a long week?
To quote the ever-wise Jonny Tsunami,

I wore this to work last Friday!

I'm still trying to figure out the weather in SF. I am always freezing or burning up. I had my denim jacket on hand just in case.

I still think this maxi skirt was one of the best purchases I ever made.

This has become my favorite way to wear my hair. Bizzy cut it a couple of weeks ago, so now that the ends are clean it stands a little wider when I comb it out. I'm not sure what it'd technically be called, but it feels like a fro, and I bet if it was short it would stand fully up. These photos have day-old hair, too - in its true incarnation it was much pouffier.

The amazing Danielle took these photos, once again.

Check out some other awesome portraits she's taken over here.

I'm off today, so I'll be out exploring my new city.
Happy Friday!

Chicago Nostalgia: "City of Necessity"

Saw this on the Lee Bey blog on WBEZ.
Say hello to old school Chicago, via a strange little 20-minute 1961 documentary.

A Tulle For You.

Necklace: Forever 21
Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Belt: thrifted
Skirt: Maureen Sullivan
Shoes: Payless

I have one thing to say about this outfit:

This incredible skirt was made by Maureen Sullivan. Obsessed isn't even a sufficient word.

The parasol is a shot of sunshine, the blue of this tank is one of my favorite shades . . .
Danielle did an incredible job with these photos. I am SO LUCKY that she is a genius.

At the risk of going full-blown ballerina, I paired this skirt with a sparkly dainty necklace, and a bun. But I think the blue stripes and brown leather belt keep it tethered to my real life.

These shoes cost me $20 and they are SO COMFORTABLE. I wore them for 4 hours straight with no sign of pain. Payless strikes again. You can find them here

Look! Twin Peaks!

I now have another week in San Francisco under my belt. Things are settling down a little - I am starting to get the feeling that this is where I live, not like I'm on a really long vacation. The streets are becoming a little more familiar. I'm getting better at pinpointing to where I am on a map. I'm homesick for Chicago and all the love I had there, but I feel invigorated by being so off-balance here. It helps that the weather is impeccable and I'm surrounded by hills and colors and fire escapes and palm trees and streetcars. It helps a lot.

Nails that match your shirt that match your shoes. WHY NOT!

I am officially in the Bay!

The past 11 days have been a complete blur. Between learning street names and figuring out a new job and constant dread over an impending BART strike and not having a place to live yet...I am having quite a hard time keeping my brain on straight. This city is incredibly beautiful, but boy has it been challenging.

The good news is that in spite of the rollercoaster, I'm already starting to love it here.

This is what I wore for a day of exploration in Noe Valley with Danielle, and on an ice cream date to Mitchell's with my darling friend Doernte!

I decided to start wearing awesome giant glasses, and my BFF Bizzy also cut my hair! The winds of change are blowing!

All the photos in this post were taken by incredibly talented sister, Danielle, of Danielle Motif Photography. She works magic, and I am so excited to be able to work with her now that we're in the same city!

Get ready for lots of adventures, guys!
Happy fall to you.

Chicago, I love you.

Tomorrow I am leaving Chicago.

When I got here a Daley was still the mayor and nobody knew who the Blackhawks were. Big Star was still the Pontiac Diner, Millenium Park had juuuuust opened, and the Pink Line didn't even exist. When I got here I knew nothing about life - I still don't know much, except that no place will ever feel like this again. Something kept me here even when I wanted to bail, and I know now that it was the city teaching me to stick with things. Chicago, I love you, you made me who I am. Cheers to one last day.

They say you never forget your first, and man do I know it.
Farewell Chicago, you incomparable beauty.
