Black / Gold / Olive

Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Necklace: Banana Republic
Ring: Francesca's
Pants: Banana Republic
Shoes: gift, Steve Madden
Sunglasses: Anthropologie
Lipstick: Wet n Wild "Coraline"
Nailpolish: Essie "Black Licorice"

This is the only color combo I want this summer.

This outfit reminds me a lot of an oldie - Glam Grocery Safari, from way back in 2011. I thought it then and I think it now: there is nothing that makes me feel more glamorous than plain basics in gold/olive/black.

I am matching the decor in my room... this is either awesome or terrible, I can't tell.

Summer, please. A SWIILPT playlist.

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

A summer playlist, from my heart to yours.

Things you should do while listening to it:
1) Picnic. Somewhere around South Lake Shore & Balbo.
2) Find a rooftop you've never been on.
3) Drink something very cold and very strong.
4) Water guns.
5) Turn it up in your headphones, stand between the cars of a moving El train. (Carefully, of course.)

Happy Summer guys!

Feeling Witchy

Dress: Forever 21
Headband: Forever 21
Belt: vintage
Nailpolish: Essie "Black Licorice"

I put a spell on you.

This dress is my favorite purchase of the summer. It's back in stock here!

This turbany-headband has been around for so many years now - I never grow tired of it. But I think I'm ready to graduate to wearing true turbans...if only I could figure out a way to tie one. Anybody know of a youtube tutorial that isn't incredibly complicated?!

Shady memories

Hat: H&M
Blouse: Anthropologie
Shorts: Anthropologie
Ring: gift, Francesca's (thanks Emma)
Bracelets: Anthropologie, gifts - Amrita Singh (thanks Alejandra)
Shoes: DSW, available here
Nail polish: Essie "Clambake"

Summer dressing.

I pulled out this hat the other day and realized how many memories it holds. I bought it in New York when I was 19, on a summer road trip with some of my very best friends. New York was so unreal to me then - it seemed like a comic book that I was reading. I didn't think anybody could be fearless enough to make a life in a place so dense and bright. Everything inanimate vibrated somehow, everyone was neon, whether or not they wanted to be. The street lights and fire escapes and subways and car horns...everything was life or death. It's a memory that excites and terrifies me.

I bought this hat to block the sun, and it acted as a visual buffer for me during that trip: a layer between me and the city. When I'm in New York I always feel like I'm on the brink of panic - and it's dumb, but having a veil kept me a little more calm.

My love for these shoes borders on psychotic. They are PERFECT.

A lesson in magnetism

Jacket: Urban Outfitters
Necklace: gifted by Love, Lill
Romper: Anthropologie
Shoes: gift, Steve Madden (thanks Mom!)

Guys, I tried.
I tried SO HARD.
To resist this romper.

But for the love of God, look at it.
I am only so strong.

In spite of the existence of SWIILPT, and actually partly because of it, I am always trying to curb my shopping habits and take true stock of what I own and what I love. If you've ever tried to write a style blog you've probably experienced the shopaholic/monster/hoarder side effects that can come with it. It can be a battle to keep your head on - to remember that it's about quality, not quantity.

To keep myself from buying things, I play hard to get. I first try telling myself I don't like it that much. Yeah, it's cute, but whatever, so is every other romper. When that doesn't work, I tell myself I don't need it. This is usually where it all stops, because it is ALWAYS TRUE: I do not need a romper. I do not need any more clothes

After a few weeks, if I still catch myself thinking of it wistfully, I surrender.

My photographer. She is very talented and focused, as long as there are no squirrels around.

I'm pairng it with another love-at-first-sight, my favorite baggy jacket.

My Mom searched high and low for these shoes for me after I gave up on finding them in a size that would fit my GIANT feet - she is the nicest.

It's feeling like Chicago Summer and I'm a happy camper.
Tonight I'm going to see Josh Rouse with some of my favorite people, and I can't wait.

Instant Happy

Shirt: Forever 21
Belt: vintage
Skirt: Anthropologie (old)
Lipstick: Wet n Wild "Coraline"
Shoes: DSW

At the end of this week I needed an outfit that said "HAPPY FRIDAY!",
and I think this one did the trick!

This is my favorite instant-sunshine skirt. Adding the chambray covered in polka dots made it pretty impossible to feel tired all day.

Still the best cheap lipstick on earth! $1.99, homies.

Over on the left you can get a peek at the plants that are slowly taking over my back porch. If you're like me and have a tendency to forget to take care of the plants you buy, these guys are basically foolproof. To the point that I am running out of things to add mint/basil to.

Hope your weekend is perfect.
