The Urbaness

How many other ladies living in Chicago (or any city, for that matter) occasionally find themselves eating food from the same two restaurants, skipping things out of laziness, barely sneaking in time for friends, and only seeing the outside world through the windows of the El on the commute between work and home?

It's called The Urbaness and it launched this week!

Here's a description of who they are, from their facebook page:

"The Urbaness is Chicago's premier city guide & lifestyle website, coming 9. 24. 12. Inspiring adventure. Inciting curiosity. Emboldening the city girl to seek the world outside her door. The Urbaness is powered by the creative minds at Urbaness Media, LLC. Call it a city guide or call it a love letter, The Urbaness celebrates—in photos, in-depth interviews, and advice from area experts—the spirit and community that set the Windy City high above the rest. Look to us to incite a spur-of-the-moment urban adventure, to fall in love with a tucked away boutique, or to find calm and balance while living your life in one of our nation’s busiest cities."

The long and short: they know that any woman living in Chicago should NEVER be bored (unless she so chooses), and the Urbaness is here to help us always have exploring and adventuring inspiration!

I had the pleasure of sitting down with these ladies to take some photos.

If you've ever wondered what I'd wear on a day out in the city,

or on a date with a handsome gentleman,

or on an evening out with my friends,

you can check back there next week for my style feature!

In the mean time, I'm off to celebrate!
I'm turning 25 this weekend.
1/4 of a century.

Feeling Dandy

Shirt: borrowed, Banana Republic men's (thanks Trevor)
Necklace: gift, Ann Taylor (thanks Mom)
Belt: thrifted
Shorts: Urban Outfitters
Purse: Anthropologie
Shoes: thrifted, Seychelles
Earrings: vintage, gift (thanks Gram)
Sunglasses: thrifted

A word of warning for all the guys I know: if you are ever so kind as to let me borrow your shirt when it's unexpectedly freezing, I will probably keep it for at least a few weeks.

I wore this on a day of errands, and on a quick cupcake expedition to More in the Gold Coast. Get the chocolate caramel, and bring a friend to help eat it/for moral support. It's a long messy journey of self-discovery and elation.

A couple things I cannot get enough of right now:
1 - polka dots
2 - navy
3 - men's clothes - i'm buying my first tie this weekend
4 - shorts (even though it's only 50 out today! fall, finally!)

These shorts were an impulse buy before going to see GirlTalk at the Congress a couple of weeks ago and now I can't stop wearing them.

I suppose the season for bare legs is over...time to stock up on tights.

Sunglasses: here, here, here, here

BY THE WAY - if you follow me on instagram (@melliott930) you may remember me mentioning an early, early photoshoot last month. The site I was shooting for is launching NEXT WEEK! They're called The Urbaness, and trust me, they're awesome.

I'll keep you updated :)
 Happy Autumn!

Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Earrings: vintage, gift (thanks Gram)
Belt: Taken off a dress from Forever 21
Skirt: Anthropologie
Jacket: ??, gift (thanks Kim)

Summer's over. The hot pink maxi skirt window is closing.
One last hurrah.

Wore this to B&L / Smoke Daddy / The Bedford

Do you guys remember that season of America's Next Top Model when that blonde, squirrely, big-eyed adorable model could never keep her eyes open in the sun? She was always squinting and tearing up? I get it now.

I don't think I've ever worn this belt on the dress it came with, now that I think of it...

This was my first time taking outfit photos in about 2 months.
Feeling good, motivated,
cautious, hopeful.
