Girls Will Be Boys

Blazer: Target
T-shirt: Urban Outfitters
Belt: ...hmm...
Jeans: Banana Republic
Shoes: Banana Republic
Scarf: gift, Banana Republic (thanks Joe)
Bracelets: Kokorokoko, thrifted, stolen from sisters, H&M
Nailpolish: Essie "Chinchilly, Wet n Wild "Everybody Loves Redmond"
Toe nailpolish: Essie "Borrowed & Blue", Sally Hansen Instadry "Brisk Blue"

An effort to inject new life into some of my old favorites.
Also, an exercise in less-is-more mentality.
Because what clothing obsessed lady doesn't need a dose of reason now and then?!

Wore this to work, then added the heels for a post-work outing.

A gaggle of bracelets, and a newcomer from H&M. Are they foxes? Racoons? Reverse pandas? Who knows, who cares. They're magical.

Now don't get me wrong - I love these BR shoes, and they go with every single thing in my closet. But if I could have worn any shoes on earth with this outfit... would have been these. Cole Haan, pure magic. I haven't been so obsessed with shoes since I obsessively stalked the Louis Vuitton Spicy Sandal collection back in like, 2007.

Before I go,

The folks behind TheKnot, TheBump, and TheNest have officially launched a website for those of us who are not betrothed, knocked up, or buying a house!

It's called TheBlush, and it rocks. I'll be contributing over there in the future, and in the meantime, you can check out a Greatest Hits compilation of some outfit favorites from SWIILPT, in which I share my style secrets! Shhh...

I'm off to have some champagne to celebrate!

Shirt: H&M
Necklaces: Love Lill and Forever 21
Belt: thrifted
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Nine West, via DSW
Sunglasses: thrifted
Purse: gift, Kate Spade (thanks Mai)
Nailpolish: Wet n Wild, Deborah Lippmann, Anna Sui, Revlon

Wore this doing work and errands this week.

Sometimes simplicity is where it's at. A couple colors, a pattern, some gems.

This little baby is my most recent jewelry acquisition - made by my talented and fabulous friend Kristin, and sold in her Etsy shop Love, Lill. Pretty sure I'll be buying the red/white twisty bracelet next...

Minnie Mouse Club

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Sunglasses: thrifted
Tank: Urban Outfitters
Shirt: Target
Belt: ...funny story...
Shorts: TopShop
Shoes: Kenneth Cole Reaction, via DSW
Bag: gift, Kate Spade (thanks Mai)

I've been wearing these shorts constantly for the past week.
Each day, a different variation of Minnie Mouse.

You'd think that I'd be a little more tan, what with all this 80 degree weather and my recent trip to paradise. But alas, let's be real, it's still MARCH, so it's still probably too early to be wearing white lace. Whatevs.

This outfit felt luxe, because of the ladylike patterns and textures, but also extremely laid back. That's the exact place where I like my style to sit. Not fussy, but always a little fancied up.

I like bows on my toes!
My uber-stylish mama taught me right.

Please enjoy this excellent shot of the hole in the left shoulder of my shirt.
What can I say? I can't give it up.
Also please enjoy your day.

Stripes on Stripes

Necklace: Francesca's
Shirt: Anthropologie (available here)
Shorts: Old Navy (available here)
Bag: gift, Kate Spade (thanks Mai)
Sunglasses: Anthropologie
Shoes: Steve Madden via DSW
Nailpolish: Wet n Wild "Everybody Loves Redmond" (YUP STILL THE WORST)

Against all logic and reason, the weather in Chicago has hit the 70s and stayed there.
The calendar still says it's winter.

I wore this for an afternoon stroll in the park with my pal Randall, who took these photos for me. He gave me very elaborate scenarios for inspiration, including being chased down a beach by a scary man. All in a hilarious accent that sounds like this.

This shirt makes me feel like one of the Lost Boys in Peter Pan. I love it.

These are my favorite shoes. They're pretty much destroyed - it's been touch and go for a while, but being caught in a torrential rainstorm in Hawaii has sealed their fate. They will soon join the shoes in the back of my closet that I can't bear to part with, regardless of how ruined they are.

Running away from the scary man on the beach.

Sunglasses: Anthropologie
Jacket: Anthropologie
Lipstick: Wet n Wild "Coraline"
Shirt: Forever 21
Necklace: Forever 21
Belt: Ann Taylor, gift (thanks Mom)
Skirt: H&M
Tights: ...?
Shoes: Steve Madden via DSW, gift (thanks Mom)
Nailpolish: Wet n Wild "Everybody Loves Redmond" (STILL THE WORST NAME EVER)

My outfit is horribly wrinkly and creased in these photos. That's what happens when you work in your clothes all day and have to squeeze in a few good snaps before the sun goes down!

It didn't look this disheveled all day. At least I hope it didn't.

I'm still bad at tying my own ties, so huge necklaces have been excellent stand-ins until I perfect my skillz. This one was a major impulse buy but it turns out it's exactly the right length/size/color for almost every shirt I own. Who knew.

Each year I get overly zealous about the first few truly warm days - I usually try to go all out in a t-shirt and a flouncy skirt, sans tights. And each year I magically forget that the first few warm days always bring mad wind. I just end up frantically trying to hold my skirt down as I fight the breeze on the sidewalk. This skirt was the foolproof version of the silly flouncy ones I'd tried in the past - a little pouf, a lotta structure. Works for me!

Hawaiian Tropic

Bag: Lucky
Tshirt: Anthrpologie
Shorts: Anthropologie
Nailpolish: Wet n Wild "Everybody Loves Redmond" (WORST NAME EVER)
Earrings: Claire's, 10th grade
Sunglasses: Anthropologie
Flip flops: ....?

I wore this one of of many magical days on Kauai!

Getting a good picture of these earrings was tough - the wind was crazy and my hair wasn't behaving well either. Even though I'm pretty sure I bought them in 10th grade, I sure to love these things.

Evidence of the earring difficulty, with my lovely guest photographer, my impossibly talented sister Danielle! You can look at some of her other work on her website here.

Aloha #2

Sunday, March 11, 2012

Here are a few more photos from my trip to Hawaii.
Normal blogging will commence again this week!

All taken on my old Canon Rebel (except for the last shot, which was taken on a water-proof disposable by Sparky, my surf instructor!)

Happy March!
