Shirt: Forever 21
Necklace: Forever 21
Belt: Anthropologie
Skirt: Urban Outfitters
Tights: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Payless
Lipstick: Clinique Different Lipstick "Spiced Apple"

I hope you all had a perfect holiday!
Today I bring you an outfit I wore a couple of weeks ago but forgot to post.
I can't recall where I wore it anymore...but here it is.

These tights were bought to replace these ones - the dots are bigger and they're missing the back seam, but they're still cute.

If I could wear floral silk blouses every day, I would. I suppose it'd get boring, but silk floral would be a major component of my daily uniform if I had one.

This skirt will absolutely be in my next MVP post (you can see the first one here). It probably gets worn at least 3 times a week - more than any other item in my closet. It's been seen here, here, here, and here.

Happy Wednesday!
And if you've got any questions, send em in! The Q&A post will be going up soon.

Turban: Anthropologie
Necklace: Banana Republic
Blouse: J Crew
Sweater: Anthropologie
Skirt: Banana Republic
Tights: HUE
Socks: borrowed (...stolen...), Brooks Brothers (Thanks Dad)
Shoes: thrifted
Lipstick, my new fave: Wet 'n' Wild "Sugar Plum Fairy"

Writing this as I wake up from the most bomb dream I've had in months: I was an extreme photographer of sorts, and me and my DSLR were scaling buildings in Manhattan getting unbelievable photos. Then I'd throw my camera over my shoulder and swing down/between other buildings and take more photos. At once point I became Spiderman and shot spidey-webs across the Hudson and swung around taking photos...someone clearly misses New York...okay, anyway. Sorry.

Work + Drinks!

Don't know how I manage to make so many luxe-y fabrics looks so...homeless chic. It's a gift.

Also, this is my first turban, and I can safely say it will not be the last. Magic.

I finally gave in and bought this guy. More than a month of obsession wore me down. It's mildly itchy mohair so I can only wear it with long sleeves, but that's my only grievance. It's great.

I don't know how to pack. Each time I go home I'll bring like, 6 dresses and no pairs of socks. These socks were borrowed from my Dad on one of those occasions, and then WHOOOOPS I accidentally brought them back to Chicago with me. And the boots, oh how I love them. My best thrift ever, I'd say.

Look guys! I got a Christmas tree!

Thought I'd try out this lipstick on a $2.99 whim, and it did NOT let me down. Even when I wear completely boring clothes (which believe you me, does happen), all I have to do is swipe on some neon purple lipstick and I'm suddenly dolled up like a gypsy. Add a turban and fahgeettabautit.

There's finally some snow on the ground!
And I'm going home to my family next week.
Life = good.

PS. I've been getting emails the past couple of weeks with questions from you beauties - will be doing an answers post soon! So if you have anything you want answered ("where can I wear furry bracelets without feeling like a character from the Flinstones?" "why are your photos always mildly out of focus?" "what is the meaning of life?"), feel free to leave em on my email or twitter!

Business Casual, My Way

Blazer: Forever 21
Dress: H&M
Necklace: Anthropologie
Belt: gift, Ann Taylor (thanks Mom)
Tights: HUE
Boots: Target

Wore this to a lunch date in the loop - did my best to blend in with the suits.

I bought this dress for my college graduation a couple of years ago. It was the last one in the store, and of course, it's two sizes too big. It's not too obvious when belted & blazer-ed.

I couldn't decide if I loved or hated this necklace for a while, but now that I own it I'm finding it to be a lot more fun than anticipated. Gives the illusion of a deep, vertical V.

My hair has allllmost fully switched over to dreadlocks in this photo. I once had high school dreams of having a full head of dreads. Not my style anymore,  but the truth is if I leave my hair curly and wild for a few days, it makes faux-dreads all on it's own. Perfect, kinky, easily wash-out-able, not-smelly dreads. YAY!

Say hello my newest shoes! I couldn't say no at 30 buckaroos. Target. You always get me.

The rest of it is all stuff that's never been seen before on SWIILPT!

My two favorite holidays are just around the river bend!
Bring on the cheer.

Double Brunch

Wednesday, December 07, 2011

Shirt: Target
Tubetop: Target
Skirt: Urban Outfitters
Headscarfy-band: Forever 21
Earrings: thrifted, gift (thanks Emma)
Tights: HUE
Bag: Anthropologie
Boots: Frye
Nailpolish: OPI "Kennebunk-Port", Wet n Wild "Sparked"

I wore this last weekend on what turned out to be TWO brunch dates. Fatty fatty no friends, right here!

I spent the previous night having a fantastic and ridiculous time at the Owl (and later at Taco Bell, I hate to admit), so I knew the next morning's outfit would have to be easy and comfortable. I don't even think I wore the headband to my planned brunch date...I have a feeling my hair was just looking like a tired mess at that point. But by the time I got home and my roommate and our delightful friend convinced me to join them on their brunch date as well, I figured I should at least put it up.

This is my latest headscarfy-band acquisition. I'm obsessed with it.

A little Valentine's Day, but I still dig it.

First of all, best news ever:
I was on Refinery29 last week! In a slideshow, among some of my favorite Chicago bloggers, wearing my Mayflower Girl outfit. Quite possibly the coolest thing that's happened to me, ever. Check it out over here!

Secondly, the other coolest thing that's ever happened to me: this jacket.
This is what I wore to the opening night of Henri Bendel in Chicago a couple of weeks ago.

This is not an outfit in which to be a wallflower. I had never been approached so often by strangers in my life. I think that sequins have magical powers. And these ones in particular are SO magnetic - the shine and texture on them creates a fur-like effect. I cannot think of anything on earth as ridiculous and glamorous as furry sequins.

The black chiffon edges keep this jacket from being so Michael Jackson it stops being cute (though I did feel kind of like MJ in it, in the best way). That plus the vertical ruffle on the blouse keep it ladylike.

Honestly I wore navy tights because I couldn't find any black ones - gahaha - but I think it was for the best. Black may have been too harsh.

I love how even the camera lens looks textured here.
I hope you're having a perfect Sunday!
Come say hey!

Takes a Morning Off

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Shirt: Urban Outfitters (available here)
Sweater: Banana Republic
Necklace: gift, Ann Taylor (thanks Mom)
Skirt: Forever 21
Leggings: Anthropologie (available here)
Trench: Ann Taylor
Boots: Frye (available here)
Bag: gift, Kate Spade (thanks Mai)
Gloves: gift, J Crew (thanks Danielle) (available here)

Guys, I had a 6 whole unscheduled hours on Tuesday! Which meant I spent an extremely glamorous morning grocery shopping, buying postcards, and cleaning my apartment. Can you even believe the glitz of my life?

This is what I wore.

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, I've begun the surgery of lowering myself into the miserable state of acceptance that is the yearly trudge through...god I don't even want to type it...winter. I was absolutely FREEZING while taking these pictures - hence why I didn't spend any extra time worrying about things like, oh I don't know, camera focus. Apologies! My hands were so cold.

All of the pieces I'm wearing in this outfit have been very well loved. Check the slightly broken chain on the necklace or the crazy pilling on the sweater for proof.

This gem of a hat has spent the last 5 years keeping my ears warm, I can't imagine winter without it. And I think I can safely say Tuesday was the last day I'll get away with wearing a trench - it's just too cold now. Sigh.

For the record, I really dislike leggings. They kinda make people lazy and zap sartorial creativity. Mostly I dislike them because like 70% of the population refuses to accept the truth that THEY ARE NOT, IN FACT, PANTS. They are not meant to replace pants - aka, you cannot wear them without also covering your ass. Don't even get me started on this rant. (Also, if you're ever in a pickle and need to make sure you're actually wearing pants, never fear, Buzzfeed has a handy flow chart for you.)

All that said, these are the best leggings on earth. They are fleecelined and thus magically cozy. But bet your bottom dollar, I will NEVER wear them without a skirt/dress/tunic.

I've never worn this top buttoned all the way up before - it's really constricting this way, but I don't care. It's so dapper and fun.

Man it was windy!

PS. Breaking from blogging last week got me thinking, and thinking got me needing to vent about some stuff. Expect a very wordy post about the not-so-glittery truths of So What If I Like Pretty Things, blogging and the like in the near future.
